Cambridge school set for upgrade
Rueil-Malmaison - 9 February 2012
VINCI Construction UK has been awarded a £6.8m contract from The Leys and St Faith’s Schools Foundation for the demolition of the existing theatre and the construction of a new state of the art building.
The new facility will be situated in the middle of the 19th century Leys School campus and will be five storeys high. It will not only accommodate a new theatre hall, but also dance and drama studios, as well as providing additional science laboratory space linked to the existing science block. Photo Voltaic cells are also being installed on top of the current science building to provide much needed sustainable power for the new facilities.
Chris Thwaite, Managing Director, VINCI Construction UK – Building East commented:
“VINCI Construction UK is delighted to be undertaking this contract in the heart of Cambridge city centre. There are going to be many technical challenges associated with this project that will require us to draw on all of our expertise and experience.”
VINCI Construction UK is teaming up with Architects Bland Brown & Cole, Structural Engineers Hannah Reed and Mechanical and Electrical Consultants Max Fordham. Together, we will be working in close partnership with The Leys and St Faith’s Schools Foundation to ensure that all works are completed to the highest standard.
